This month seems to have flown by,
and been really long, all at the same time. Maybe that's because
I'm not "running around" as much as I used to. I've learned to
stay put and try to stay entertained at home.
I know some of these documentaries
and TV shows are available other places, like Youtube or Amazon Prime
Video, but I subscribed to Curiosity Stream which makes interesting stuff easier for me to find and I have learned so much while sewing! Click here for an invitation from me to subscribe if you like. I think I "win" a t-shirt or something! LOL
Have you ever watched "A Stitch In Time"? It is a BBC TV series
presented by fashion historian Amber Butchart. She takes her
inspiration from traditional artwork, does lots of research and then
works with interesting artisans to re-create the outfits, which she
models in the end. It is so much fun! (I do have a background in
How would you like to spend the
summer wearing this fluffy gown every time friends drop by for iced
tea!? This is a recreation of a Marie Antoinette gown (as in "let
them eat cake" and outrageous wigs!).
Remember, this is also the age of
irons being heated over coals or fire. I must admit it inspired me to
look twice at (and buy) a Panasonic cordless iron.
Tempting, I know! There is now one here in the store for
sale. Come check it out. I love mine. No cord!
What about this gorgeous, wrinkles-as-you-look-at-it, silk wrap?
The whole series is so interesting and entertaining, especially if you are in to COSTUMES or history at all!
We don't carry white silk, but we do have a fabulous selection of COTTON WHITE SOLIDS
and WHITE-ON-WHITE PRINTS, in many variations. Another problem to
be solved on our web site (sorry, there's no easy way to see them
together), but you can see the many shelves here in the store! If
you are looking for something in particular, please don't hesitate to
phone or message.
While not as much research & work goes into them, I hope you're catching Kirsten's impromptu videos in the store.
She recently showed a lot of great fabrics "hidden" in our HOLIDAY ROOM. Including CHRISTMAS & HALLOWEEN,
these are also on the web, mostly. Keep checking if something
appears in a video and isn't quite posted, as it will be soon. Or
you can always phone. 316-284-2547
CHRISTMAS & WINTER can be seen here on the web.
And don't be surprised, I think Christmas might be moving! hahaha
Lily has also been staying at home in KC and sewing up a storm!
She recently sent "progress" photos. Lily's bringing the finished HALLOWEEN CANDY CADDY with her this weekend, so it will soon be on display in the store together with the bunting. We have a few PANELS available now, and more on order, but don't wait! This is quite unique and I have a feeling may run out!
The caddy ends up with 30 little pockets for inserting candy! Quilt it a lot or a little! Up to you. Click CANDY PLEASE.
Today, we DO HAVE ELASTIC. We have 1/4" in black & white, and 1/8" in black
Facebook Live is officially part of our new normal.

The "stay at home" period did introduce us to FACEBOOK LIVE, and we've stayed "hooked", like many of you.

There is a lot of love out there for the bright, new Shop Hop SUNFLOWER FABRIC!
We have taken lots of pre-orders which will deliver in October.
I've just ordered more, so don't procrastinate, PRE-ORDER here.
Are you a QUILTERS TREK, 2020 True Blue Challenge Champion?!
October 15 the first 2 people to appear with finished quilts, using so
many of the Quilters Trek blocks, wins a prize from me! You must
use at least 32 9" blocks from 8 participating stores. You'll win
a stack of 15 fat quarters from me. ;)
My block can still be ordered by clicking here.
Sign-ups continue for Mary's next SAMPLER CLASS, to begin in September.
She'll be guiding you through Fig Tree's SAMPLER, block by block.
You can make it just like Joanna's original, in the soft tangerine and charcoal, or like Mary's, bright and bold, using new TULA PINK TRUE COLORS, or make it all your own, choosing your own color palette and fabrics all at once or bit by bit!
Call the store 316-284-2547, or sign up on-line. The class is $36 for the year, pattern and materials are extra.
SAMPLER classes are good to:
- provide a monthly deadline, keeping you on track
- learn tips and new ways of doing things, in addition to the instructions given in the pattern
- see the same block you've made, but with different color choices
- provide motivation and inspiration
- spend quality time with other people who sew and "get it"! ;)
New BATIKS in the store.
Check out these gorgeous FEATHERS from Hoffman. Such detail and color!
Click here to see all the BATIKS, and click here to see all the NEWEST ADDITIONS including BATIKS.
More new fabric, includes a beautiful line of soft COTTON SOLIDS in BRIGHT COLORS from FREESPIRIT. These hand crafted, hand dyed cottons, designed by Jane Sassaman, have a velvety nap that the photo doesn't capture. Come in to pet them. ;)
And Basic Grey's NAUGHTY OR NICE is also now "in the building". Click here to see all the NEWEST ADDITIONS.
Don't be "naughty", be nice, keeping in mind "friends who are dear to
us", masks are now mandatory in the store. You can still come in
and spend "quality time" with us! We're here 5 days a week, 10 to
5, and on Saturdays 10 to 4.
Have a great weekend.
Hope to see you soon!
