Oct. 21, 2011

Hi all!

Mary's MARTI & ME CLUB met yesterday.   As usual, Mary came up with a great version of the monthly project.

This GIANT ZIG ZAG quilt is actually small enough to suit a baby or toddler, cover a table or back of a chair.

This project is especially fast and easy using Marti's FLYING GEESE RULER.  Ruler

The sampler quilt blocks are always fun to look at!  Many people have chosen their own fabrics for the RETURN TO ROMANCE QUILT.

The blocks are made using Rotary Cutting TEMPLATE SETS A & D.

This was just the 2nd class, and it's not too late to join RETURN TO ROMANCE or MARTI & ME CLUB.  Check out the details here:

Another one of Mary's MARTI & ME CLUB projects was a fun STAR QUILT.

Mary simply sashed the SQUARES using MARTI MICHELL's SASHING STAR POINT template/ruler set to make them dance among the STARS!

She started with Karen Snyder's DOLLY DEAR panel featuring little dresses in vintage prints.  The border & rick-rack around each dress are a printed part of the fabric block!

While the panels and the kits of Mary's quilt sold out earlier this month, they are back in stock now.

We've cut new kits.  We had to change the light & dark purple fabrics pictured here.  The outside is now a tiny purple polka-dot, almost the exact same color and the inside sashing has a  little more color to it and looks great!

Order now.  I expect they won't last long!

See LARGER IMAGES and descriptions here:

This is a time of year that LOTS of NEW FABRIC is being introduced by all the companies.

Toni (of Wing & A Prayer Designs, who also represents Timeless Treasures & Marcus Fabrics), was in the store this week, and showed me the QUILT from the new FREE PATTERN, that will be posted "soon" at web site, featuring her new line of fabrics, BELLA VERONA.  Always clever, Toni said it had something to do with Romeo & Juliet, but I forget, so you'll have to watch for it!  The textured fabrics are really gorgeous and should arrive in the store in time for NEW YEAR projects!

There are many web site offering FREE QUILT PATTERNS.  They are not all equal!  Listen for those with good reputations!

Check out MODA BAKE SHOP often for great ideas, tested patterns, and lots of comments and feed-back from people who have sewn the patterns.

Breckyn whipped up this PINWHEEL BABY QUILT using one of their free patterns and PRE-CUT 5" CHARM SQUARES:

Making it even easier for you to sew, we've kitted this cute little quilt, starting with two packs of pre-cut 5" squares, one bundle of prints & one all cream solid and included all the rest of the fabrics for the top, back & binding, including that panel I mentioned.

The pattern is available for FREE at Moda's Bakeshop web site.  Click here for details:

As I mentioned last week, I recently had fun learning a new technique for making TUMBLING BLOCKS!

I took pictures as I went along, as I thought it was so cool!  I used my phone camera, so they're not the greatest, but they do show the process.

Click here to see my whole TUMBLING BLOCKS story listed in the FREE TIPS section of my web site:

I started with Quiltsmart's printed interfacing for TUMBLING BLOCKS.  If you've ever used any QUILTSMART products, you know they start with a very fine, fusible interfacing, and print the stitching & cutting lines right on it.  This is different from foundation piecing, but really makes the project accurate and quick.

If you've never used any of the QUILTSMART products, TUMBLING BLOCKS is a good one to start with!  It really is easy appliqué!

Check out another favorite QUILTSMART product.

Use Broadway Border printed interfacing, and you'll get perfect, interesting edges every time!

Make them as long as you like.  Layer them many times, or just once.  Stitch down with a small zig-zag stitch, or leave it loose as LaVerna did here.

A great way to add a decorative border to anything, like this delightful NATURE PANEL from MODA with great CARDINALS!

There are all sorts of ways to be creative with BROADWAY BORDERS.
