Hi all!
Happy
MEMORIAL DAY weekend! We will be closed on Monday, but open
Saturday 9:30 to 5 downtown and 10 to 5:30 at the mall.
We are having a BATTING
SPECIAL today through next Saturday, June 4th.
10% off all PACKAGED
BATTING.
With our latest
shipments we have the best selection ever! You know you're going
to finish some projects this summer, so come to Charlotte's in
downtown Newton and get your batting: cotton, wool, polyester &
blends!
We are thankful that the
weather seems to have moderated for now in our area.
Like the rest of the
country, we've watched with horror as tornados have whipped through
communities, destroying more than property, taking lives. We
wish those affected people all the best with recovery and suggest
donations to the Red Cross for help with immediate relief:

I did not grow up where
any of my family were buried, so I do not have a grave-decorating
tradition on Memorial Day. My husband, always a Kansan, does!
Last fall Randy & I
made a fun trip to Pittsburgh, PA and one of our surprise
"finds" was the location of my ancestral cemetery.
It is no small thing for
someone like me to discover that I actually have roots, and in a
landmark!
The
Allegheny Cemetery, opened in 1845, is a beautiful, peaceful
green-space within Pittsburgh, with miles of paved pathways perfect
for walking the rolling hills.
The number of
famous (and not so famous) people interred there, as well as the
unusual architecture, mausoleums, monuments and gravestones, makes for
interesting exploration.
If you are interested in
historical burial grounds, this is a gem! It is even on the
National Register of Historic Places.

This Pittsburgh cemetery was created in
the same era that spawned the elaboratively
decorative Baltimore Album quilts, which are traced back to 1846 in Baltimore.
Those beautiful quilts
have inspired many more Baltimore style quilts wherever there are
quilters, including this contemporary BALTIMORE
LIBERTY quilt featuring many American patriotic motifs.
The 24” center medallion Liberty Wreath block is surrounded by twelve 12” album style blocks and finished with star & scalloped
appliqué border.
Finished Size 70” x 70”.

You can also order
Mary's mini-quilt project that finishes approx. 16 inches square and
includes just ONE BLOCK PATTERN from Baltimore Liberty. Pictured
above, this ROCKET
STAR BOUQUET makes a great summer decoration!

We have a nice selection
of AMERICAN
VALOR fabrics here in the store.
Now in stock, Diane
Knott's American Valor collection is rather cute and country.

We also have Jo
Morton's collection which is more classic & traditional.

These designs are special collections of patriotic fabrics for
QUILTS OF VALOR.
Each
fabric company has also made a financial contribution to Quilts of Valor Foundation. This foundation is not about politics. It's about people and quilters are involved in a big way!
If you would like to learn more about the mission of the QOV Foundation to cover ALL those service members and veterans touched by war with Wartime Quilts called Quilts of Valor (QOVs), please click here:

left for BIG
BLUES. This quick little hanging finishes approx. 14 x 24
