Oct. 13, 2011  - Original

Hi all!

Two nearly-local QUILT SHOWS happen this weekend, Oct. 15 & 16.

The Emma Creek Quilt Guild's quilt show, CELEBRATING 25 YEARS OF QUILTING, will be held in the Hesston Elementary School, 300 E. Amos, in Hesston (8 miles NW of us).  The event is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday Oct 15 and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday Oct. 16. Admission is $5 per person.

At left is a picture of their opportunity quilt.  This full-size quilt features a hand-appliquéd center, scalloped outside border, all done by guild members and exquisite custom machine quilting.  Come to the show and see for yourself!

The Halstead Quilt Show, will be held together with the Fine Arts & Crafts festival, Sat. Oct 15 only, at the Halstead High School, 520 W. 6th St in Halstead, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. (14 miles SW of us).

Have you noticed it even "smells" like autumn outside now!  Why do I feel like I'd better not "blink", or I'll miss it?  Could be the stress of the summer still hasn't left me.  LOL

Breckyn's PINWHEEL BABY QUILT suits our mood.  Fun & cheery!  The colors are warm rusts, golds, turquoise and browns perfect for the season.  Whimsical motifs include fish, lollipops, alphabet & a monkey riding a bike on the back!

Making it even easier for you to sew, we've kitted this cute little quilt, starting with two packs of pre-cut 5" squares, one bundle of prints & one all cream solid and included all the rest of the fabrics for the top, back & binding, including that panel I mentioned.

The pattern is available for FREE at Moda's Bakeshop web site.  Click here for details:

I recently had fun learning a new technique for making TUMBLING BLOCKS!

I took pictures as I went along, as I thought it was so cool!  I used my phone camera, so they're not the greatest, but they do show the process.  Click here to see my whole story listed in the TIPS section of my web site:

http://sewnatural.net/tumblingblocks.htm

I started with Quiltsmart's printed interfacing for TUMBLING BLOCKS.  If you've ever used any QUILTSMART products, you know they start with a very fine, fusible interfacing, and print the stitching & cutting lines right on it.  This is different from foundation piecing, but really makes the project accurate and quick.

If you've never used any of the QUILTSMART products, TUMBLING BLOCKS is a good one to start with!  It really is easy appliqué!

Check out this great way to add a decorative border to anything, like a delightful NATURE PANEL from MODA with great CARDINALS!

Use Broadway Border printed interfacing, also from QUILTSMART, and you'll get perfect, interesting edges!

Make them as long as you like.  Layer them many times, or just once.  Stitch down with a small zig-zag stitch, or leave it lose as LaVerna did here.

LaVerna laid the red fabric, backed with BROADWAY BORDER interfacing, on top of the green border, pieced a 4-patch for each corner, and simply attached them to a 24" wide x 42" long PANEL from Moda.

There are all sorts of ways to be creative with BROADWAY BORDERS.

Mary just finished a fast little quilt using another favorite "short-cut tool".

She started with Karen Snyder's DOLLY DEAR panel featuring little dresses in vintage prints.  The border & rick-rack around each dress are a printed part of the block!

Place your orders now and we'll send kits as soon as the panel is back in stock.  Delivery expected in about 10 days.

Mary simply sashed the SQUARES using MARTI MICHELL's SASHING STAR POINT template/ruler set to make them dance among the STARS!

Popular as ever, our newly cut kits for CLEO'S DESIGNS NATIVITY pattern, featuring Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus surrounded by the easiest ever, rock-wall looking background, uses Hoffman batiks, hand-dyed fabrics and a good, solid BLACK.  Order today, and you could finish this easy fusible-appliqué project in time to display for the Holidays.
